Otter is the veteran of cloud transcription: a bot joins the call, audio goes to Otter's servers, and every plan is metered in minutes. Parlo takes the opposite route. It listens to the Mac's own audio, transcribes on the machine, never counts minutes, and writes the notes into a folder you keep.
Parlo requires macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later on Apple Silicon. Intel Macs aren't supported.

Nobody in the call knows
Otter's default is a bot that joins as a participant and writes notes into Otter. Parlo never joins anything: it listens to the system audio and your mic on your own Mac, so the participant list stays the way it was and there is nothing to announce or explain.
Minutes aren't a thing
Every Otter plan below Business is metered: 300 minutes a month free, 1,200 on Pro, with per-meeting caps. Parlo transcribes on your Mac, so a four-hour workshop costs the same as a stand-up, which is nothing.
The notes are files, the audio never leaves
Otter uploads audio and keeps the transcript in its cloud. Parlo transcribes locally and writes each meeting as Markdown into a folder you own; audio never leaves the machine. Dictation and voice commands for the Mac come in the same app.
